How It Works
From Badge Read to Face-First in Three Steps
No forklift upgrade, no new panels, no new policies. The Rock joins your access control system as another reader — and turns every equipped door into a zero-trust checkpoint.
Step 1 — How do students and staff enroll?
Enrollment is opt-in and takes about a minute: a student follows a link from the Alcatraz Platform, captures a short self-guided scan on their phone or laptop, and confirms consent. Where campus policy allows it, opt-in auto-enrollment can instead build a profile after roughly 4–5 normal badge reads at a Rock-equipped door.
Consent is not a checkbox buried in a housing agreement. The platform records who consented, when, and to what; enrollment status is visible to the individual; and revoking is as easy as enrolling — deletion of the biometric template follows immediately. Students who never opt in simply keep using their badge.
Step 2 — What happens at the door?
An enrolled person walks up and the Rock performs a 3D, liveness-checked facial authentication in under a second — entirely on the device. The scan is compared against the person's encrypted template at the edge; nothing is sent to a server to make the decision, and no photo or video of the moment is stored on the device.
Liveness detection means a printed photo or a phone screen doesn't open doors. And because the Rock keeps observing after the unlock, it detects tailgating: if more people pass through than authenticated, your access control system gets the event in real time.
Step 3 — How does it integrate with our ACS?
The Rock presents itself to your access control system as a standard reader over Wiegand or OSDP. Genetec Synergis, LenelS2 OnGuard, Software House C•CURE, and Genea all see a familiar credential read — so your panels, door hardware, schedules, and alarm logic stay exactly as they are.
That is the deliberate architecture decision behind the whole product: authentication gets radically stronger, and the system of record doesn't change. Your team keeps its workflows, your integrator keeps its wiring diagrams, and your badge population keeps working as the universal fallback.
