Security Architecture
What Protects the Biometric Data Itself?
Facial scans are converted on the device into encrypted, non-reconstitutable mathematical templates — there is no photo to steal. Templates are protected with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.2/1.3 in transit, no photos, names, or videos are stored on the device, and Alcatraz AI maintains SOC 2 attestation with GDPR, BIPA, and CCPA alignment.

Hardware and Platform Questions
What's the difference between the Rock and Rock X?
Both run the same facial authentication engine on the device. The Rock is the indoor reader for residence floors, labs, and offices; Rock X is hardened for exterior doors, adding IP66 and IK08 ratings, an 8MP ONVIF camera, and a SIP intercom for visitor workflows.
Does Rock X work with our existing access control system?
Yes. Rock X installs in line with your current readers over Wiegand or OSDP and presents to your access control system as a standard credential. Panels, controllers, and badges all stay in place within Genetec, LenelS2, Software House C•CURE, or Genea.
Where is the facial data processed?
On the reader itself. The full 3D scan-to-decision pipeline runs at the edge in under a second, so no round trip to a server is needed and doors keep working if the network drops. Scans become encrypted, non-reconstitutable templates — no photos, names, or videos are stored on the device.
Can Rock X handle outdoor entrances year-round?
Yes. Rock X is IP66-sealed against dust and water and IK08 impact-rated, operates from -40°F to 150°F, and authenticates across 0–120,000 lux — from a moonless residence-hall entrance to a stadium gate in direct sun. Perimeter doors and garages are in scope.
